Turning 18/Transfer of Rights Package:

Helpful if you are wondering:

  • How do my parental rights change when my student turns 18?
  • What responsibilities will my student have to take over?
  • How can I both protect my young adult and encourage his/her autonomy?
  • I’ve heard of Supported Decision-Making, Powers of Attorney, Guardianship, Special Needs Trusts, ABLE accounts and more; what do I need for my specific young adult and situation?
  • How do I best advocate for my adult child?
  • How can the school help prepare my child?

Format:

90-minute strategy session in person or by phone, pre-session document review, post-session follow-up (assumes about 3 hours of work)

North Star© Strategic Person-Centered Planning Package:

Format:

120-minute facilitated team meeting starting with the adult life domains of employment, post-secondary education, independent living, social-emotional life, and self-determination; moves through medium-term goal-setting and ends with concrete action steps. Includes meeting prep and facilitation, and generation of post-session written and visual summaries. (assumes about 4 hours of work)

You will take away:

Written, concrete realistic action items addressing all priority areas; long-term roadmap to return to that balances overall strategy with flexibility and course correction; sense of hope and security for your loved one’s future.

School Support Strategy Package:

Helpful if you are wondering:

  • Is the school addressing my child’s needs as well as they can be?
  • What else might be available to my child?
  • I don’t know what I don’t know; what am I missing?
  • How can I feel heard by my professional counterparts?
  • How can I be the strongest advocate possible for my child?
